an Inspiring Detour - ZambaWood

Detour camp was held  last year. It talked about embracing life’s unexpected turns. The said camp awakens the sleeping competitive selves of those who attended. Different inspiring stories have been told by the guest speakers. One of these speakers was Mrs. Rachel Harrison. Life seems so full and happy without challenges until she found out that her son has been diagnosed with autism. She went through self-pity and the number of times she cried was countless. A doctor reminded her to be strong for the sake of her son and mustered all the courage she needs to face all odds.
She decided to enliven her life for her son and started opening up different projects for those who are in the same case as her son. Zambawood was the product of her perseverance and her heart to serve people with disabilities. “Our goal is to address the needs of people with autism and other disabilities to lead into productive, purposeful and sustainable lives through skills training programmes.” (http://www.zambawood.com/artcentre/) The said place offer fun activities such as farming, painting, cooking, housekeeping, art crafting and surfing.The place is adorned with nature. It was said that the place was perfect for recuperating and refreshing.
Having the almost same situation as Mrs. Harrison, I was inspired by her testimony. It is true that quitting before you even gather your courage would make your situation even worse. During the Kick-Off Challenge qualifying round, each participant was given three (3) attempts within one (1) minute to tryand kick thesoccer ball inside a customized mock-up washing machine goal from a designated distance of twenty (20) feet.  Since only one (1) participant was successful in hitting the goal, a second round to determine the remaining final nine (9) participants was conducted with which each participant was allowed to kick the ball with unlimited chances within one (1) minute from a nearer distance of fifteen (15) feet.


At the end of the event, instead of having only ten (10) finalists, Beko allowed seventeen (17) participants who successfully hit the goalat least once to move on to the final round.  These finalists are as follows: Top Seven (7) Qualifiers: KiannaSubido; Rudolf Peralta; Nichol John Gacasa; Dylan Dylanco;Fatima Marie Gomez; Jayson Biadog& Rafael Halili. Risk of having heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, certain cancers, stroke, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis and infertility are high.
Sunlife Media held a briefing on Asia health Index results and Wellness Campain. A survey was given to identify the barriers to living a healthier life. Results show that Philippine made it to the top of the list of Asian countries with less number of people who are engaged in physical activities and exercise. Our country tied up with Thailand and Malaysia with 61%. According to the survey, 57% of Filipinos blame it on their lack of time due to work. 47% admitted that it is due to lack of personal motivation. 47% is due to modern life distractions. Some mentioned that it is due to the cost of accessible venues at 45% and recreational activities at 36 %. As a result, they have concluded that Generation O still exists. Generation O means overworked, over weight and overwhelmed, a segment of population first identified in the 2014 survey of the Sunlife Financial Asia Health Index and in the latest study finds that Generation O continuing to struggle with their health goals. But of course there is still hope for this. The Asia Health Index also showed that Filipinos are still very positive about their health. In fact, Our country scored the highest of all the markets surveyed on the overall health index.
